placecraft & strabloc
I founded Placecraft after stepping away from film and photography, wanting to challenge myself beyond observing and reporting into problem solving and shaping how we build our homes. My interest in the relationship between the natural world and the built environment led to a design-build practice rooted in careful consideration of materials, simplicity and eventually focused on scalability of solutions that encompassed those values. The buildings we created at Placecraft were efforts to close the gap between nature and the built environment. StraBloc grew from that same work, developed to provide building materials that are circular, scalable, and made in relationship with community. Below is a selection of projects 2018 - 2024.
StraBloc ADU

StraBloc wall system

We set out to make a plant-based, carbon-negative wall system that didn’t lose sight of efficiencies or neglect human-scale, craft-focused building.
nature oriented dwellings

These seven pilot projects were the foundation to eventually permit a structure using the StraBloc wall system.

Kinship

Perched on a sun drenched slope overlooking a sea of alder, maple, wild cherry and fir, this is a cozy two-story cabin for a couple dove-tailed with a ceremonial space in the round for community gatherings.
